Youths in Singapore have helped to raise more funds to support beneficiaries under the care of Community Chest.
The National Council of Social Service (NCSS) said the amount raised through the Community Chest’s annual Youth Day Appeal (YDA) was S$305,000 in the last financial year.
That’s a 34 per cent increase from the S$227,000 raised in financial year 2007.
NCSS said for this year’s Children’s Day Appeal and YDA, the Community Chest will, for the first time, let participating schools designate the donations raised to a specific voluntary welfare organisation of their choice.
General Manager of Community Chest, Ms Tan Bee Heong said: “Some schools have causes that they are passionate to support and some may already have their students volunteering at nearby VWOs which are supported by Community Chest.
“By offering schools the option of designating their donations, we hope to build on the schools’ existing community involvement programme and enable the students to have another platform to help the less fortunate through the funds raised.”
