The Boys’ Brigade Share-A-Gift project has met its target of bringing festive cheer to 30,285 beneficiaries this year.
This is a record high for the annual charity project, which is now in its 25th year.
Chairman of the project Mr Lui Chong Chee said donations of food and household items from the public started pouring in just days before the project ended on Wednesday.
“Each year we have faith in the Singapore public…11 days ago we (had) only hit 21 per cent of our target, but the Singapore public came and started donating food…so (we) were able to hit 100 per cent (of our target),” he said.
3,500 Boys’ Brigade officers and boys have been delivering the donated food hampers to families since last month, helped by youths from the Girl Guides and the St John Ambulance Brigade.
