Charity car drive tours Gardens by the Bay

Love on Wheels, a charity car drive project started by the People’s Association’s (PA) PMET Division in 2012, aims to get car owners to give back to the community and spend time with the less privileged this year.

The first Love on Wheels project of this year saw about 200 elderly Singaporeans taken on a leisurely drive around Singapore on Saturday in more than 100 cars.

The project was organised by Bishan North Community Centre and PA PMET Division.

After the cars were flagged off at the Bishan Sports Hall, they proceeded to pick up the elderly, who came from homes such as the Bishan Home and the Asian Women’s Welfare Association, (AWWA) Community Home.

One car-owner who took part in the programme was Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Josephine Teo.

Beneficiaries were driven to Gardens by the Bay for a tour of the Flower Dome. They were also treated to lunch and entertainment.

Ms Teo said: “One of the things that I find very useful about a project like ‘Love on Wheels’ is that there are many exciting developments in Singapore that some of our disadvantaged citizens may not have the opportunity to enjoy… I think it’s important that we find the opportunities for all Singaporeans to be able to enjoy our country’s development.”
