Help schoolkids in need, get Tim Ho Wan treats

Popular Hong Kong dim-sum restaurant Tim Ho Wan’s branch at Plaza Singapura will hold its first charity event on Sunday to coincide with its official launch.

The “Buy a Bao for Charity” event will raise funds, capitalising on the appeal of its BBQ pork buns.

All proceeds will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF). The one-day donation drive will begin at 10am and last till 10pm.

Tim Ho Wan will treat donors to its pork buns, with the number of buns handed out based on the amount received.

For a $2 donation, a donor will receive a bun, while for a $5 donation, he will get two. Ten buns will be given out for a $100 donation.

Tim Ho Wan will match every dollar donated, up to a cap of $8,888.

SPMF chairman Han Fook Kwang will officiate the event, along with the man behind the restaurant, chef Mak Kwai Pui, and other restaurant stakeholders.

The restaurant opened for business at The Atrium @ Orchard, Plaza Singapura, on April 10 to much fanfare, with long queues forming outside for its coveted dim sum.

Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan is a recipient of a star from the Michelin Guide in 2009.
