RSVP Singapore raises S$300,000 for beneficiaries

RSVP Singapore on Friday raised S$300,000 with a gala dinner.

The non-profit organisation provides opportunities for seniors to serve the community through their talent and experience.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean was at the dinner on Friday evening.

Mr Teo said: “The participation rate in volunteerism amongst Singaporeans aged 65 and more grew from 10 per cent in 2010 to 17 per cent in 2012. And this is a very positive and encouraging sign. This is good news but more remains to be done.”

Proceeds raised will go towards helping the mentally disadvantaged, physically challenged, needy and discharged elderly patients.

The dinner also marks the start of a year-long activity where more seniors will be helped to contribute to the community through volunteering programs.
