Over 30 employees of online property firm PropertyGuru on Thursday shaved their heads as a pledge to help children with cancer.
It all started with a bidding war among staff – the winner gets to shave the head of the group’s co-founder and chief executive officer, Steve Melhuish.
This was part of the “Hair for Hope” head-shaving event, which aims to raise awareness and funds for families of children who have cancer.
In total, more than S$20,000 was raised, including donations from sponsors.
And the winning bid to shave Mr Melhuish’s head went to the head of consumer marketing for S$1,000.
Mr Melhuish said: “One of our core values is around respect, and that’s a big part of what we do. We feel very strong about it.
“So this year, we decided to choose the Children’s Cancer (Foundation). Children and cancer – two causes that I personally feel strongly about, but the whole company has rallied behind it.
“I’m very, very proud to be part of that; it’s a small sacrifice to have no hair for a couple of months.”
