Charity walk raises rice donations for needy

Some 700 people helped raise donations of 15,000 bowls of rice for needy residents living in the South-East district by participating in the FairPrice Walk for Rice @ South East on Sunday.

NTUC FairPrice donated one bowl of rice for every 100 metres covered.

Some of the rice was distributed to about 140 needy elderly beneficiaries of the Thye Hua Kuan Bedok Radiance Senior Activity Centre.

NTUC FairPrice said it would continue to partner the South East Community Development Council for another three years in the annual charity campaign.

The campaign is aimed at rallying the community to play a part in helping needy families living in the district.

In 2012, FairPrice Foundation, the charity arm of FairPrice, donated 500,000 bowls of rice — which benefited 7,000 needy families.
