1,000 underprivileged children to benefit from S$500,000 donation to food fund

Some 1,000 underprivileged children will be eating healthier with the help of a S$500,000 donation to a food fund.

From January next year, the beneficiaries will get at least one healthy and balanced meal every day at school for a year.

It is a partnership between CapitaLand Hope Foundation and the People’s Association.

The launch of the Kids’ Food Fund programme was attended by 100 beneficiaries.

They participated in a “cook-off” where they had to make balanced meals in a creative manner.

The programme will be administered through the five Community Development Councils.

The children’s growth and well-being will be tracked online and their height and weight will be updated twice a year.

Such data will help stakeholders identify areas for improvement and children who need further assistance.

Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Health and mayor of the South West District, said: “No child should go hungry in school just because of their family circumstances. So, ultimately, the programme will also help the family in terms of defraying some of the schooling expenses.”
