Special athletes do their bit for needy kids

After washing more than 50 cars at Orchid Country Club, Special Olympics Singapore athletes and their families raised $2,425 for The Straits Times’ School Pocket Money Fund.

On Saturday, the non-profit organisation, dedicated to providing sports training and competitions for persons with disabilities, presented the cheque during the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Learning Trails initiative at Bishan Park.

Youth leaders from Special Olympics Singapore, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School and the Dyslexia Association of Singapore came together to lead the learning trail and celebrate Earth Hour.

The event attracted 120 participants. One of the youth leaders, Singapore national pole vaulter Sean Lim, 20, said it was an “eye-opening” experience “to witness first-hand how social inclusion unites Special Olympics athletes and their peers without disabilities”.
