More than 1,400 Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) student participants have helped to raise household products for over 30 underprivileged families in the South East District.
In total, more than 380 successful climbs were achieved during the challenge, and over $3,700 worth of products were raised for the underprivileged families.
Participants in the 3M Step-Up Challenge @ South East 2014 earned one free household product from 3M for an underprivileged family with every successful climb up various height elements in OBS, such as the Inverse Tower and the rock wall.
For every 12 successful climbs achieved, a family in the South East District received a set of 3M household products, worth $120.
Student leader from Juying Secondary School, Syafa Wati Binte Suhaimi, 15, said: ” This is an unusual volunteering activity. I often receive help from others and now that I am able to help others from this climb, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment.”
Her climbing partner, Elle Ellyssa Binte Khair, said: “I was very afraid during the climb, I was afraid that I could not balance myself properly but I am happy to be able to complete the climb. I helped to gain household products, a valuable gift for the underprivileged families.”
“Climbing to the top for the underprivileged families gives greater meaning to the climb I attempted. Everyone should give their best and make an effort to climb, ” said Jun Guan, a student leader from Woodlands Ring Secondary School.
This year, the 3M Step-Up Challenge @ South East 2014 hopes to garner six million steps in exchange for 12,000 household products for underprivileged families in the South East District.
Participants of the 3M Step-Up Challenge can post photos of themselves with friends and family doing the 3M Step-Up Challenge on Instagram with the hashtag #3MStepUp and share the posts on Facebook. The top five photos with the most number of ‘Likes’ on Instagram every fortnight will win a prize from 3M.
