Charity walk raises S$1 million for needy families

FairPrice Walks With U has raised S$1 million for charity. This year’s event at the Promontory @ Marina Bay attracted 1,000 more participants, up from 5,000 in 2013.

Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing flagged off the event and joined the participants in the event. The 2014 walk was designed around the theme “Walk Around the World”.

FairPrice Foundation had earlier pledged a donation of S$100 for each registered participant and S$10 for every Instagram, Twitter or Facebook post that carries the official hashtag #fairpricewalk.

The funds raised would go towards helping needy families purchase daily essentials with FairPrice vouchers. More than 20,000 needy families will benefit from the scheme.

Bobby Chin, chairman of NTUC FairPrice, said: “FairPrice supports family, supports healthy living. So what we are trying to do is to organise activities that promotes both healthy living and family bonding.”
