From Malacca to Batu Pahat to Singapore, some 150 cyclists took part in a private fund-raising event initiated by Bike Aid Singapore to raise funds for Sunlove Home.

Known as Ride for Rations, the cycling event is into its fourth consecutive year, and all donations raised will go to the purchase of monthly essential rations for the needy families residing in Marsiling and Chai Chee.

Last year’s event raised some $250,000 and their aim for 2014 is to reach $280,000, said Bike Aid Singapore. The organisers of Bike Aid Singapore have planned to include a cluster of families in Hougang if the target is achieved.

The event took place from Aug 23 and 24, and covered a distance of 240km. The cyclists took a coach to Malacca before making the return leg on bicycles. There were more than 20 private cars providing vital support to the cyclists throughout the entire cycling duration.

From the oldest cyclist at 71 years to another who is battling cancer, all the cyclists returned safely.
