National Heart Centre Singapore’s first charity gala raises more than S$760,000

The national cardiovascular centre, National Heart Care Singapore (NHCS), held its inaugural charity gala, Heart to Heart Gala 2015, on Friday (Mar 6). With the gala, NHCS raised S$764,950 for the NHCS Heart2Heart Fund to benefit heart patients.

The amount raised will go towards patient care and programmes that introduce new life-saving treatments to patients, together with cardiovascular research, driving medical excellence and innovation to provide patients with quality heart care, said NHCS. Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen was the guest of honour at the gala.

“Heart disease is the largest contributor to the disease burden in Singapore. With heart attack rates on the rise, every donation we receive will help boost research in heart disease,” said Adjunct Professor Terrance Chua, Medical Director at NHCS.

He added the money raised would aid in “prevention and treatment” and would help patients to cope with “rising costs of expensive technology”.

The gala’s theme, The First Beat, marks the beginning of the medical centre’s fundraising efforts.
