Volunteers run donation drive for National Day

From donating S$5 to charity to have a customised Lego figurine be part of a scale model of the National Day Parade (NDP), to submitting videos of themselves singing the National Anthem, Singaporeans can expect more “engaging” National Day celebrations this year.

More than 500 volunteers from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), *SCAPE, Pathlight School and the Asian Women’s Welfare Association will be helping to build a 12m-by-9m scale model of the NDP celebrations at The Float @ Marina Bay.

Called “Building A LovingSG”, the project was initiated by NYP and will use close to 200,000 Lego bricks.

Singaporeans can contribute to the project by making a S$5 donation with an EZ-Link card at any of the roadshows held at Funan DigitaLife Mall, Tampines Mall, Bugis Junction and JCube.

For a S$5 donation, donors will receive two customisable Lego figures – one to be placed on the seating gallery of the replica platform and the other for them to keep.

Donations can also be made online through the NDP official site or the NDPeeps Facebook page and by scanning the mobile QR code on the project’s bus stop ads.

Only 25,000 figurines will be available to donors at the roadshows between June 16 and 24 and the completed model will be displayed at National Day roadshows from July 7 to Aug 12. The project aims to collect S$200,000, which will be donated to charity.

Singaporeans can also be a part of Singapore’s first virtual choir by submitting online video recordings of themselves singing the National Anthem or by recording their singing at the NDP roadshows.

The project, called “LovingSG: One Heart, One Voice”, will weave together the clips and play them at the parade.

Also introduced for the first time this year is LovingSg Trails. Hosted on the NDPOnTheGo mobile app, it will take participants on themed routes – Heritage, Urban, Green and Food – to re-discover Singapore.

Participants are required to snap a photo of themselves at each checkpoint and answer a question that will lead to the next checkpoint.

Those who complete each trail within two weeks stand a chance to win prizes such as fun packs, vouchers and electronic gadgets.
