Local charities received a record $896m in 2011

Local charitable causes received a record $896 million from both corporations and members of the public – the highest in the last 10 years.

The Commissioner of Charities (COC) reported for year ended December 2011 that this figure is an increase of 15 per cent as compared to previous year which received $776 million.

Corporate and individual donations rose 19 per cent and 9 per cent respectively.

The Code of Governance has also taken into consideration public feedback and has made revisions to streamline processes, and the Charities Accounting Standard was implemented in June 2011 to facilitate financial reporting and ensure greater transparency.

The COC office pledge to provide better support for charities and IPCs in their work and to enhance public confidence in the sector.
