Singapore Children’s Society gets S$1.38 million donation

The Singapore Children’s Society has received its biggest single donation from a deceased’s estate.

The children’s charity received a cheque of close to S$1.38 million from the estate of the late Mdm Chin Mee Ngo.

A regular donor to charities, Mdm Chin was in her 60s when she passed away in Feb 2010 due to a stroke. Mdm Chin’s niece and an executor of the will, Ms Helen Tjandra, presented the cheque to Singapore Children’s Society chairman Koh Choon Hui and honorary treasurer Theresa Sim.

Mr Alfred Tan, executive director of Singapore Children’s Society, said Mdm Chin’s generosity will greatly benefit the children, youth and families that the charity reaches out to through its 58 programmes and services.

Over the years, the Singapore Children’s Society provides before-and-after school services for children from low-income families, a residential home for children in need of protection and shelter, character development programmes for youths, financial assistance for needy families as well as research and public education initiatives.

In 2011, the charity reached out to 67,574 children, youth and families-in-need.
