Singapore Red Cross launched an initiative to distribute rice to people in need.
Project RICE 2013 will involve hundreds of Red Cross Youth volunteers around 20 years old who will be sharing information about the cause, which aims to collect some 37,000kg of rice over the next few weeks and to reach out to 17,000 beneficiaries.
Members of the public are encouraged to buy rice vouchers at all Sheng Shiong Supermarket outlets from Jan 12 to Jan 25.
On Jan 19, the youth volunteers will be knocking on the doors of households at more than 500 HDB blocks to share about Project RICE 2013, before the physical door-to-door rice collection on Feb 2.
The rice distribution to beneficiaries will take place on Feb 3.
