More than 200 students from Manjusri Secondary School in an Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) programme, together with their OBS instructors, gave new meaning to rope-skipping on Thursday afternoon by raising grocery packs with a monster skip.
Their tireless efforts for the “Giant Team Skip” at the OBS Pulau Ubin campus earned 600 Yifon food products for needy elderly and families. The “Giant Team Skip” is part of the ‘YIFON Skips For Nutritional Wellness @ South East 2013’ campaign organised by the South East Community Development Council (CDC) and sponsored by Yit Hong Pte Ltd.
The team activity requires 14 participants to skip as one body on a single 18-metre-long rope.
Each group has to complete 20 successful skips to raise one grocery pack consisting of 10 food products.
A total of 14 teams participated in the 30-minute challenge.
Said 14-year-old Ho Qi Kang, who completed a total of 200 skips with his team: “I will always remember this skipping activity because our group bonded while doing something meaningful together for a good cause.” His teammate, Chua Seng Jin, also 14, added: “I think it is great to have fun and help the needy at the same time.”
The effort by OBS and Manjus ri Secondary School is one of the 30 roadshows organised as part of the ‘YIFON S kips For Nutritional Wellness @ South East 2013’ campaign.
The 1 1/2-month long campaign which was launched in January hopes to engage 10,000 residents to skip and accumulate a total of three million skips in exchange for $60,000 worth of Yifon food products to benefit 3,000 needy residents in the South East district.
