ComChest pedals for fundraiser

Members of the public are invited to participate in the “Great 400km Pedal Challenge” which will be kickstarted at the ComChest Give A Hand! 2013 roadshow on March 9.

Madam Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament and Adviser to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), will join Mr Seah Kian Peng, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (Singapore) of NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd, Ms Jennie Chua, Chairman of Community Chest, Mr Nicholas Ionides, Vice President of Public Affairs of Singapore Airlines Limited and Ms Ang Bee Lian, CEO of NCSS for the curtain-raiser on Saturday.

For a minimum donation of $2, participants can pedal on the stationary bikes for up to 15 minutes, and corporate partners of Community Chest will pledge $1 for every metre cycled.

21-year-old Paralympian Ms Yip Pin Xiu, a former beneficiary of Community Chest-supported AWWA TEACH ME, will also accompany 12-year-old Malcom Yew, a Community Chest’s beneficiary from MINDSville@Napiri – Children’s Wing, at the wheelchair obstacle course.

The course is one of the experiential activities that the public can participate at the roadshow, and experience the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in their daily lives with a donation of $2.

The roadshow will be held at the AMK Hub Basement 1 Exhibition Hall this weekend (Mar 9 and 10), 11am to 9pm. Experiential activities and fringe games during the roadshow include a wheelchair obstacle course. This requires the individual to navigate a ramp, a narrow path and uneven ground and complete a series of tasks while seated in a wheelchair. For every $2 donation, the public will also receive a goodie bag, including vouchers from corporate sponsors and Community Chest collaterals, while stocks last.
