Boys’ Brigade hits target of reaching out to over 40,000 beneficiaries

In just under a month of collecting donation items, the Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift (BBSG) project has successfully hit its target of reaching out to more than 40,000 beneficiaries this year.

Now into its 26th year, the donation drive saw a jump of 10,000 beneficiaries from last year.

The donations include food hampers which contain items such as biscuits, rice, oil, instant noodles, canned food and Milo.

Beneficiaries could also ask for specific wishes — anything from a teddy bear, school shoes, to pillows and mattresses.

The items were collected, packed and distributed by more than 5,000 volunteers.

NTUC FairPrice has been a partner in this project for 13 years, and its online portal is still open for donations.

Members of the public can also volunteer to deliver the food hampers to the homes of beneficiaries island-wide.

Desmond Koh, executive director for The Boys’ Brigade, said: “The out-pouring of donations since the beginning of the project this year was just tremendous. Most of the time, the donations tend to pick up towards the end, but this year — this has been a very special year. The donations started picking up even from the beginning.”
