Twenty-nine cyclists from Singapore and Malaysia are planning to raise funds for charity by travelling 850 kilometres on two wheels over four days.
The second Apex 850 was launched on Saturday evening to attract donations for Apex Harmony Lodge, a home that cares for dementia patients.
The event and the trip are organised by volunteers from the Singaporean and Malaysian chapters of the Apex Club, a community service organisation for young people.
Starting on February 25, the cyclists plan to ride up to 12 hours each day from Singapore to Penang.
The journey will see them cycle through Malacca, Rawang and Ipoh as well.
The aim is to raise S$200,000 which will be used to help run the home and finance its various programmes.
Singapore’s first SEA Games cycling gold medallist in 16 years, Dinah Chan, was at the launch to lend her support.
“I’m here to inspire them and hopefully they will persevere and ride the whole 850 kilometres with zeal and raise funds in the meantime,” said Chan.
Donors who want to support the cause can do so online or by cheque.
Corporates may wish to pledge a fee for their logos to be featured on collaterals, signs, vehicles and cycling jerseys.
