Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong has said the Government is looking into ways to improve the volunteer experience for seniors.
Speaking at the opening of this year’s Senior Volunteer Week, Mr Wong said the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) wants to make volunteering opportunities more accessible. It is also exploring how to strengthen management capabilities and improve job scopes.
For feedback, MCCY is working closely with the Health Ministry and will conduct focus group discussions.
Senior Volunteer Week starts on Friday (Sep 5) and ends next Thursday. Held by RSVP Singapore, the Organisation of Senior Volunteers, it aims to emphasise the role of volunteerism in nation building, as well as active ageing.
Said Mr Wong: “We sometimes think of seniors as people who need help, but in fact, the seniors are real assets in our society. They provide social capital, they have experience to contribute and they can really be a real plus for us to share their experiences with others and to help those in need”
