Singaporeans can mark this year’s National Day celebrations with a selfless gesture – by giving to charity through the “Building A LovingSG” project.
A 12-by-9m scale model of the National Day Parade (NDP) celebrations at The Float @ Marina Bay will be built from close to 200,000 Lego bricks.
And by making a S$5 donation with an EZ-Link card at any of the roadshows held at Funan DigitalLife Mall, Tampines Mall, Bugis Junction and JCube, donors will receive a customisable Lego figure which will be placed on the seating gallery of the replica platform.
The completed model will be displayed at various National Day roadshows from July 7 to Aug 12.
The project by Nanyang Polytechnic will involve 500 volunteers from the school, *Scape, Pathlight School and Asian Women’s Welfare Association, who will be helping to build the structure.
And incorporated into the National Day celebrations this year is the LovingSG trails programme, with four uniquely themed routes. A new route will be announced every two weeks through its iPhone and Android app.
These outreach activities are in addition to the parade’s onging photo competitions which follow the parade’s theme “Loving Singapore, Our Home”
“Through these activities, we hope that Singaporeans will also be inspired to think about what it means to love Singapore, our home,” said NDP 2012 engagement committee chairman Lim Siong Tiong.
