A charity sale by scale modellers in Singapore has raised about S$100,000 for kids at risk.
This comprises proceeds from the sale and corporate donations, which are matched dollar-for-dollar by the government, under the Care and Share Movement led by Community Chest.
A queue started forming at 7.50am on Saturday at the Kampong Ubi Community Centre.
The people were waiting for the sale to start at noon, so that they could get their hands on some 1,300 pre-owned model kits.
Five hundred of the kits were donated by Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin.
The kits had a minimum price tag of S$5.
The event was originally planned to take place over two days, but as all the kits were snapped up on Saturday, the sale will not take place on Sunday.
All proceeds will go to the Students Care Service.
Mr Tan said: “Apart from just raising money for charity, it was a good opportunity for the modellers to get together as well, and I hope that many of the people here would meet old friends who would have met through modelling events and so on.
“And I guess a large part of it isn’t just about helping those who need some assistance but actually also to bring people together.”
