500 seniors treated to grocery shopping & lunch

About 500 elderly Singaporeans were treated to grocery shopping on Sunday.

They were accompanied by almost 700 personal shoppers, all of whom are volunteers.

One of the seniors saw Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC, Baey Yam Keng, transform into her personal shopper for the day.

The volunteers are from the Chinese Development Assistance Council and the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clans Association.

Shoppers were entitled to S$30 worth of vouchers, which they could spend on food items.

Following the shopping spree at the NTUC FairPrice Xtra at Changi Business Park, the elderly, all of whom come from low-income backgrounds, were also treated to a Chinese lunch.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong was the guest-of-honour at the lunch.

They were also entertained by performances from the volunteers. Called Project CARE, it is the first collaborative volunteer programme between CDAC and SFCCA.
