The annual Kindness Week aims to go a step further this year by reminding residents that acts of kindness should also extend to their environment.

Organised by youths from Siglap South Community Centre and the People’s Association Youth Movement, the event hopes to build a more compassionate society among the younger generation.

One of the highlights of the Kindness Week is a flea market at Upper East Coast Road, taking place for the second time since its launch last year.

Many of the vendors are Joo Chiat residents trying their hand at running a small enterprise. One of the residents was selling plants from her garden, while another was expanding her fashion blog to the bazaar.

There were also booths from various non-profit organisations demonstrating the use of water-saving devices, while others gave tips on recycling.

The S$25 collected from each vendor as rent will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity organisation dedicated to granting the wishes children battling with terminally-ill diseases.

Earlier this morning, around 300 youth volunteers from secondary schools and junior colleges across the country organised a door-to-door collection drive of newspapers around the Joo Chiat estate.

They also distributed energy-saving light bulbs and water-saving devices to residents.

These youth-led projects will continue throughout Kindness Week, which ends on April 14. with terminally-ill diseases.Earlier this morning, around 300 youth volunteers from secondary schools and junior colleges across the country organised a door-to-door collection drive of newspapers around the Joo Chiat estate.

Barbie goes bald for kids with cancer

Mattel has announced that it would be producing a bald version of the famous Barbie doll for distribution to children’s hospitals directly reaching girls who are most affected by hair loss as they deal with cancer and alopecia.

This move followed an online campaign started by parents to encourage the company to create a doll to help children suffering from hair-loss feel better about themselves.

The dolls will come with wigs, hats, scarves and other fashion accessories. However, the dolls will not be available for sale in retail stalls.
