NYP students make dumplings for needy elderly

Keeping the tradition of dumpling-making alive is what some 50 Nanyang Polytechnic students did on Thursday, and for a worthy cause too.

The students, from NYP’s Food & Beverage Business course, learnt the art of dumpling-making from the experts – seven chefs from the Si Chuan Dou Hua chain of restaurants.

They made more than 400 dumplings in just three hours, at the Atrium of UOB Plaza.

The dumplings will be distributed on Monday to some 100 elderly folks living in rental flats.

The project, an initiative under the People’s Association, also pledged S$2,000 for the needy.

The initiative is part of ‘Project We Care’, a corporate social responsibility programme started by a group of CEOs and the People’s Association.

Mr Yam Ah Mee, chief executive director of the People’s Association, said: “Malay students, Chinese students, Indian students, all coming together with one common purpose in mind, with the passion of contributing back to the community.”
