SDSC’s Call for Volunteers April to June 2022

The Singapore Disability Sports Council is back with more opportunities for you to volunteer this April – June 2022!

National Para Swimming Championships (Sign ups closing soon!)
29 April: Event Set Up
0930 at Yio Chu Kang to around 1400 at Our Tampines Hub (Transport provided; physical strength needed for moving of logistics)
30 April: Actual Event Day
Time slots available: 0730 to 1130, 1000 to 1400, 1400 to 1600 (Last slot to end at Yio Chu Kang with the moving of logistics there; transport provided)

More details will be released to interested volunteers.

Inclusive Sports Tryouts
25 May to 28 May @ Bedok (Specific area to be announced)
Time slots available (each day): 0900 to 1200, 1400 to 1700, 1800 to 2100

Volunteers will be assisting with participants from the PwD community in trying out different para sports and will be further briefed on specific roles (sports-dependent) closer to the event.

HealthServe Volunteer Recruitment

HealthServe is on a journey to make healthcare affordable and accessible to our migrant brothers. Last year, HealthServe reached over 119,000 migrant workers, offering them holistic healthcare, social services, assistance and programmes aimed at uplifting the migrant community in Singapore.

As HealthServe expands their services, they’re recruiting medical volunteers. Roles include:
– Dentists
– Doctors (GPs and Specialist Doctors)
– Dispensers (nurses, pharmacists, or pharmacy technicians)

Donating three hours of your time each month can help make a difference to the health and wellbeing of our migrant workers.

#amPowered Programme – Call for Mentors

#amPowered is a mentoring programme that aims to support and empower youths through their academic journey and life challenges.

Majulah Community is looking for awesome mentors willing to step forward and guide other youth!

There are 2 ongoing programmes:

1. #amPowered@ITE
This programme aims to engage first year NITEC and Higher NITEC Malay/Muslim students to:
– Enhance their motivation to strive for the highest possible qualifications whilst at ITE
– Strengthen their life skills and help them discover their gifts and strengths through the Gift Centred Mentoring (GCM) approach
– Provide and bridge students to opportunities to acquire core 21st Century skills

2. #amPowered@MTS
The programme aims to support and journey with the Sec 3 and Sec 4 NA/NT students enrolled in the Mendaki Tuition Scheme to:
– Enhance their motivation to succeed in their academic pursuit
– Refer those who are facing problems (e.g. financial difficulties) to necessary and relevant assistance
– Provide guidance for them to make better-informed decisions for their future education pathways

Volunteer Camp Leaders Needed for MYMCA Children Camps 2021

Metropolitan YMCA Singapore (MYMCA) is looking for fully vaccinated youth volunteers between the age of 15 to 25 years old to be its Camp Leaders.

MYMCA’s Learning & Adventure Programmes are for 5-12 years old, and there will be two children camps this upcoming school holidays.

MYMCA Camp 2021
Dates: November 22-26
Time: Daily 0730hrs – 1830hrs
Brief: November 21, 1330hrs to 1530hrs at MYMCA

The camp motto is “PLAY + ADVENTURE = SMARTER KIDS”, therefore having FUN is the top priority for this camp!

The activities are also designed to impart the core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility and Respect.
The camps’ main objective is value and character development and camp organisers will seek out teachable moments to let them better understand themselves. Activities are designed for kids to better understand how to be considerate and compassionate.

The campers are 7-12 years old.

Mini Commando Camp 2021
Dates: November 29 – December 1
Time: Daily 0730hrs – 1830hrs
Brief: November 28, 1330hrs to 1530hrs at MYMCA

This is MYMCA’s special camp geared toward the exploration of Multiple Intelligences for younger campers!
It is a 3 day programme with activities that focuses on its three main sensory receivers: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic.

The camps’ main objective is value and character development and camp organisers will seek out teachable moments to let them better understand themselves. Activities are designed for kids to better understand how to be considerate and compassionate.

The campers are 5-7 years old.

All volunteer must be trained before leading in the camps.

Volunteers will be taught basic pedagogical approaches and camp facilitation skills.

Below are the dates that will be available:
Nov 6 (Sat) 1230hrs to 1730hrs
Nov 7 (Sun) 1230hrs to 1730hrs
Nov 13 (Sat) 1230hrs to 1730hrs
Nov 14 (Sun) 1230hrs to 1730hrs

Volunteers must be able to commit for the duration of the specific camp they express interest in!
