Singapore Children’s Society honours 61 volunteers and donors

The Singapore Children’s Society has honoured a record 61 volunteers and donors for their contributions.

Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing officiated at an award ceremony for the volunteers on Wednesday.

A new award this year – called the Commendation Service Award – was given to individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to the society, even though they have volunteered for less than five years.

One of the most prestigious awards – the Ruth Wong Award – went to the CEO of NTUC Income Co-operative, Mr Tan Suee Chieh.

The Singapore Children’s Society said Mr Tan had given sound advice and guidance to staff and fellow ex-co members of the society.

The other prestigious award – the Gopal Haridas Award – went to the family of the late Madam Chin Mee Ngo.

Madam Chin was a thrifty person who regularly donated money to charity and volunteered for the elderly and ex-offenders.

She left S$1.38 million to the Singapore Children’s Society – the largest single donation from a deceased estate for the society.
