Senior volunteers take lead in community sharing

A group of volunteers whipped up a sumptuous vegetarian lunch for 120 vulnerable seniors in Bukit Batok on Sunday.

The event was organised by the Bukit Batok Active Ageing Committee and Bukit Batok Zone 7 Residents’ Committee as part of the Bukit Batok Wellness Programme.

It is also a way for the volunteers, who are themselves seniors, in giving back to the community and to encourage other seniors to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

The effort was led by 63-year-old Mdm Chan Sam Moi, who put her culinary skills for a good cause.

From planning the menu to actual cooking, she said that she felt a deep sense of fulfilment in helping to spread joy to others.

She added that volunteering in the community helps her to stay physically, mentally and socially active.

MP for Jurong GRC David Ong joined in the festive cheer. He also gave out mandarin oranges and red packets to the seniors at the lunch.
