Volunteer with Ronald McDonald House

Volunteer with Ronald McDonald House

On 9 January 2013, we opened the new Ronald McDonald HouseTM in Singapore at National University Hospital (NUH). Our four-bedroom House within a hospital is a relatively new concept in RMHC as there are only 10 Houses within hospitals worldwide. Globally, there are over 317 Ronald McDonald Houses.

Our Ronald McDonald HouseTM will provide a “home away from home” for the sick children and their families who are being treated at NUH and will be staffed 24 hour seven days a week. The RMH offers a place to call home at no cost so families can afford the best care, regardless of location. This program allows families to stay together, helping their children heal faster and cope better.

The newest RMH at NUH is located at level 4 close to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. With an approximate 126 square meters of space, the RMH will have four ensuite bedrooms, a reading room, living room, dining room, laundry area and kitchenette.

RMHC© Singapore will also be launching a new grant-making program to support Singaporean children in 2013 and is also pursuing new locations for Family Rooms in local hospitals.

The Ronald McDonald House needs tremendous support from volunteers. In order to provide a “home away from home” experience for families, our volunteer plays an important role by providing a listening ear and sharing a common bond of love for the House and the families.

We have a wide range of rewarding volunteer opportunities available for you:

ABOUT US
Since 1984, McDonald’s helped to establish RMHC in memory of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc. Since then, RMHC provided grants to support other local children’s organizations, as well as to support the Charity’s cornerstone program the Ronald McDonald House.

Today, the Charity supports 4.5 million children a year in 53 countries and regions.  Globally, the Charity has grown to serve families through three core programs. Currently there are 307 Ronald McDonald Houses, 170 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and 44 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles.

Since 1989, generous donations from the public and also from McDonald’s have enabled the RMHC Singapore to help more than 900 sick children from needy families with over $5 million in grants for medical, surgical and rehabilitative treatments.

The RMHC has also been able to drive its cornerstone initiative, namely the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) programme in Singapore. The RMH is a home-away-from-home facility that support services for families to stay close to their sick children, as research has shown that children heal better when they know their parents are nearby.  The House has made a positive impact on families at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for the past 5 years. Moving ahead, we set up a new RMH at National University Hospital so that we can reach out to even more families.
