NUS Flag Day raises over S$460,000 for charity

Students from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have raised more than S$460,000 for charity, at this year’s Flag Day.

And this time round, they went beyond fund-raising to volunteer at their adopted charities.

Ang Yu Qian, president of NUS Students’ Union, said: “We actually came up with some new initiatives for the various halls and faculties to adopt a beneficiary each.

“Most of them actually went down to the beneficiaries to help out with volunteer work, and to understand what the beneficiaries actually need.”

At the annual Rag Day on Friday, students across all halls and faculties put on show-stopping choreographies, alongside dazzling floats made from recycled materials.

Singapore President and NUS Chancellor Tony Tan Keng Yam officiated at the event, while Environment and Water Resources Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan was part of the judging panel to select the best floats.
